December 6th, 2008

Man, this will be a sad day. Greg Maddux has said he will announce his official retirement from baseball during the winter meetings.

I love this guy. He’s my all-time favorite pitcher. Brilliant at his craft.

From MLB.com:

His best pitch was a well-located fastball. He didn’t try to overpower hitters, just confuse them. And batters everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief.

You’ll be missed, Greg. Sorry we wasted the years you were with the Cubbies.

Dodgers 9, Cubs 1? C’mon.

What the hell are we doing out there? Are you kidding me?!

I mean, not winning the Series this year is one thing, but getting swept again in the first round? It’s killing me.

Yes, I’m Still Angry

October 11th, 2007

Okay, so I’m pissed we lost to the D-Backs. Oh well. Life goes on as a Cubs fan. There’s always next year, which would be especially fitting since it’s the 100th anniversary of our last series title. Damn, 100 years?! A lot has happened since we last won one.

I’ll be posting as I hear what off-season moves will be made, and, of course, whatever other random sports crap I want to talk about.

Good Call by Piniella

October 4th, 2007

Contrary to most reports (ESPN, namely), I agree with Piniella’s decision last night to pull Zambrano. The bullpen has been doing great all year (especially Marmol), and you’re going up against the D-Backs ace, Brandon Webb. Why waste Zambrano’s arm when your bats aren’t doing anything, and are very likely not to do anything more against Webb?

I think we have an advantage in the next 2 games with our pitching, and then Carlos and Brandon can go at it again on Sunday at Wrigley, hopefully with the Cubbies up 2-1.

Vick Headed to Prison

August 20th, 2007

It’s official. Vick has agreed to a deal. He’ll do some time, but my guess is he’ll get early release for “good behavior” or some BS.

Don’t know what to think of all this. I do agree with some people though, that we sure are making a huge deal over dogs (I am an animal lover) when it seems we don’t even blink when athletes beat and murder human beings.

Samardzija Signs Baseball-Exclusive Contract!

February 23rd, 2007

From ESPN – CHICAGO — Jeff Samardzija decided to give up football and stay with baseball.

The former Notre Dame receiver, projected as a first-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft, agreed Friday to a $10 million, five-year contract to pitch for the Chicago Cubs.

“Baseball is my first love. I played it my whole life,” Samardzija said.

A 21-year-old right-hander, Samardzija was the Cubs’ fifth-round pick in last year’s amateur draft and had a 2.70 ERA in seven starts for their Class A teams at Boise and Peoria.

While I’m bummed about this as a football fan, because I love the way he plays (reminiscent of ol’ Easy Ed McCaffrey), this is great news for Cub fans, as this tall, lanky potential ace is now a pitcher only, and hopefully will make his way up the ranks quickly!
